BEHIND-THE-VIEWFINDER

Khanh Nguyen @kh4nye is a talented photographer that lives in Australia, his creative way of shooting and the natural looking tones of his images is what attracted me to his feed.

I believe that every photographer — no matter where you live can showcase their surroundings and, in such a way — create this inviting feeling that makes the viewers want to experience that location. Nguyen achieves to the fullest with his breathtaking photos and killer tones.

Whats your style of photography, what type of images do you identify with most.

My style of photography would mainly be urban/landscape photography however, I think I am shifting towards being mostly landscape/nature photography.

Hopefully I will pick up portraiture soon!

Which photographers influenced you.

The photographers who have influenced me are definitely my close friends (@mecding) and (@nakyy) along with a few big names like (@jarradseng), (@chuck), (@deanraphael) and I’m sure there are many many more. These are just the first few that came to mind.

What technology (camera/software) do you use most?

When I started off I would use my Galaxy S3 the most and VSCOCAM, however after purchasing my Olympus OMD EM 5, I have been using that the most along with Adobe Lightroom to touch up the photo and then adding a filter in VSCOCAM.

What motivates you to continue taking pictures

What motivates me to keep on going is the rapid growth of the people I follow on instagram. Seriously, the amount of talent and growth of the people I follow is just ridiculous. What drives me is to try and better myself just like they have!

Which is your favorite lens? Why?

My favorite lens would have to be the recently purchased 25mm 1.8f Zuiko micro four thirds lens. Since mine is a micro four thirds, the crop factor is a x2 meaning that it equates to a ‘nifty fifty’. It’s my multipurpose lens. I find it works for almost every situation and it’s also SO compact!

What camera gear do you wish you had? Why?

I wish to have a full frame DSLR maybe like a Canon 6d with a 25mm lowest aperture available haha! I just love the bokeh.

How do you educate yourself to take better pictures?

In order to educate myself on improving, I go out to shoot with people. I learn tips and tricks that they all use and try to fix what I have been doing wrong or find the more efficient way of doing something.

Among your works, which one is your favorite? Why?

Throughout all my works, I think my favorite piece of work was taken recently. It really depicts where I love to be. By the water. The water colours in the photo were also very pleasing after the edit 🙂

What is the one thing you wish you knew when you started taking photos?

I wish I knew how to edit better and not over contrast or expose all my shots!

What makes the good picture stand out from the average?

To me, a good photo needs a distinct subject or focal point. or something that grabs my attention and draws me into a certain point. I really love negative spaces. I’m not quite sure how to explain it but if I look at it and it makes me pause for a moment, it definitely stands out from the average!

Where are you from, where do you live.

I am originally from Vietnam, however I left as soon as I was born and moved to Korea and then to the Philippines then finally to Melbourne, Australia which is the place of my current residency.
